Individual Counselling

You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling.
Sometimes there is a specific concern which has become difficult to manage. Other times, life simply feels heavier, more complicated or more overwhelming than it used to.
Individual counselling can provide space to talk openly about what is happening without needing to have the right words or a clear explanation for why you feel the way you do.
I work with adults navigating stress, anxiety, ADHD and neurodivergence, relationship concerns, emotional challenges, self-esteem and significant life changes. The conversation is shaped by the person in front of me rather than by an assumption about what counselling should look like.
In-person individual counselling is available in Calgary. Virtual counselling is available throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

A Place to Understand What’s Happening for You

People come to individual counselling for many different reasons.
You may be dealing with something new, or you may be carrying something which has been difficult for a long time. You may understand exactly what is bothering you or only know something doesn’t feel right.
Counselling can create room to slow things down and look more closely at what you are experiencing.
My role isn’t to tell you how you should feel or what decision you should make. I want to understand your experience, what matters to you and what is happening in the larger context of your life.
Sometimes having a place where you don’t need to manage anyone else’s reaction can make a different kind of conversation possible.

Experience That Extends Beyond the Counselling Room

My path to counselling includes experience working with people in different stages of life and within complex family, educational and support systems.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a Master of Education. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 16 years working in education, including specialized mental-health and intensive behavioural-support settings.
That experience reinforced how differently people can experience the same expectations, environments and relationships. It also taught me the importance of understanding the person rather than reducing their experience to a label or one difficult part of their life.
Today, I bring that perspective into my counselling work with adults as well as children, teens, couples and families.
ADHD and neurodivergence are significant areas of my work, but they are approached as part of the whole person rather than as an explanation for everything they experience.

Stress, Anxiety & Feeling Overwhelmed

Stress can build gradually or arrive all at once.
Work, relationships, parenting, responsibilities and uncertainty can begin to feel difficult to hold at the same time. Anxiety may involve persistent worry, overthinking or feeling unable to switch off even when there is no immediate problem to solve.
Individual counselling can provide space to explore what feels overwhelming and what may be contributing to it.
The goal isn’t to promise a life without stress or worry. These are normal human experiences. Counselling can make room to understand how they are showing up in your life and what feels difficult right now.

ADHD & Neurodivergence in Adulthood

ADHD doesn’t stop mattering when childhood ends.
Adults may be navigating attention, organization, competing responsibilities, emotional experiences or years of feeling as though everyday expectations require more effort than they seem to require for other people.
Some adults come to counselling already understanding ADHD as part of their experience. Others may simply be trying to make sense of patterns they have noticed in work, relationships or daily life.
I have extensive experience with ADHD and neurodivergence. When ADHD is relevant, it can be explored without assuming it explains every difficulty or every part of who you are.

Relationships, Boundaries & Feeling Understood

Individual counselling can also be a place to talk about relationships even when the other person isn’t part of counselling.
You may be navigating conflict with a partner, family member or friend. You may be thinking about boundaries, feeling misunderstood or trying to make sense of a relationship which has become difficult.
The focus isn’t on deciding who is right. It is on understanding your experience, what the relationship means to you and what you want to consider moving forward.

Life Changes, Identity & What Comes Next

Change can affect how people understand themselves as well as the circumstances around them.
Separation, parenting changes, career shifts, loss, changing relationships or entering a different stage of life can bring questions which don’t have immediate answers.
Some transitions are chosen and others are not. Even changes which are positive can create uncertainty.
Counselling can offer space to think about what has changed, what matters now and what you are trying to understand about yourself or your life.
